The indefinite form of the noun is always used in the following constructions: The definite form of nouns is always used in the following constructions:
1) First time you tell about something.

(When you are introducing something.)

 

Jeg har ei jente på 8 år.

 

1) When it’s obvious what we’re talking about.

 

Solen er varm.

2) With the indefinite articles

Han er en flink lege.

De ser ei jente.

Vi eier et hus.

2) With the definite articles and demonstrative pronouns.

den, det, de, denne, dette, disse.

3) If possessives pronouns are placed before the noun

Det er min bil.

3) If the possessive pronouns are placed after the noun

Det er bilen min.

4) After the genitive case

Pers bil er blå

Guttens bil er blå.

 

4) The noun in genitive case will be definite.

Guttens bil er blå.

5) Every time a noun follows one of these words:
